WHY WE STARTED NOMAD OF THE BLUE
We started Nomad of the Blue because we believe underwater photography can make people fall in love with the ocean.
There is something about seeing the underwater world through a camera that changes the way you look at it. You start noticing the details. The behaviour. The personalities. The things most people never get to see.
And when you fall in love with something, you start caring about what happens to it.
That is what we want Nomad of the Blue to be about.
MORE THAN GETTING THE SHOT
Of course, we want great encounters and great photographs. That is a huge part of why we are here.
But we don't believe getting the photograph is worth disturbing an animal to get it.
For us, good underwater photography starts with respect. Understanding wildlife, reading its behaviour and knowing when to give it space are just as important as knowing your camera.
THE EXPERIENCE MATTERS
We don't want people to join one of our expeditions and feel like they are simply following a photographer around while he gets his own shots.
We want you to be part of it.
We are there to help you get the most from every encounter, whether that means helping with your photography, sharing what we know about the animals, finding the right moment, or simply making sure you are having an incredible time.
The photographs are important. The experience behind them is even more important.
WHO WE CHOOSE TO TRAVEL WITH
The people you share an expedition with can completely change the experience.
That is why we are selective about our guests, our local partners, our guides and the places we operate.
We want to surround ourselves with people who are curious, respectful, fun and genuinely excited to be in the ocean.
WHAT WE PROMISE
Small groups. Great people. Experienced local partners. Responsible wildlife encounters. Proper safety standards. Clear communication. And plenty of time in the water.
Most importantly, we want you to leave with more than a hard drive full of photographs.
We want you to leave a little more in love with the ocean than when you arrived.

You love the ocean, wildlife and adventure and are happy going with the flow when nature changes the plan.
You’re a confident swimmer who can handle deep, open water and changing ocean conditions.
No freediving experience required.
You don’t need to be an underwater photographer. Some guests love being behind the camera, others love being in front of it. Our underwater photography workshops are open to everyone, from complete beginners to experienced shooters.
You enjoy meeting people and being part of a group, and are patient and respectful with others in the water.
You understand that the safety and wellbeing of both people and wildlife always come first.
You are medically fit to participate. All guests must complete a medical declaration, and medical clearance may be required.
Minimum 18 years old.

We understand that plans can change and that life is unpredictable. However, we run very small group expeditions, and each place represents a significant commitment of time and resources. For this reason, late cancellations can have a real impact on the expedition.
Please consider this carefully before booking, as we are unable to make exceptions to the policy below.
Payment
Full payment is due no later than 3 months before the expedition start date. If payment is not received by this date, we reserve the right to cancel the booking and retain the deposit.
Cancellations
Deposit: Non-refundable.
More than 5 months before the expedition: Refund or credit, less the deposit.
Between 3 and 6 months before the expedition: 50% credit, less the deposit, valid for 1 year.
Within 3 months of the expedition: No refunds or credits. A name change may be possible, depending on the circumstances.
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that covers cancellation, illness, travel interruption, or the inability to attend the expedition at short notice.
Please read our full Terms and Conditions before booking.

Not at all! You need to be a confident, fit swimmer in deep open ocean, but no freediving certification or experience is required. In Magdalena Bay you observe bait balls from the surface anyway, so breath hold ability isn't the point!

WHAT UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY SUPPORT DO YOU PROVIDE?
This is a photographic expedition, so we’ll be putting most of our time and energy into the water, documenting the sardine run and the incredible wildlife around it. Of course, we’ll also be taking plenty of photos of the expedition itself, so you’ll have memories of the experience above and below the surface too.
We love getting those special shots of people with wildlife, but we can’t guarantee them. There are simply too many things happening at once underwater, from wildlife behaviour and visibility to where everyone is positioned in the water.
If there’s a particular photo you’d love to get, or if you’re very camera-friendly and happy to be in front of the lens, just let us know! We’ll keep it in mind and do our best to create those moments for you.
Our goal is for you to come home with plenty of images you genuinely love, both of the wildlife and of your time on the expedition.

1. Fill in the application form
Tell us a little about yourself, your ocean experience, and what you’re looking for from the expedition.
2. We review applications
We review applications on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you’re interested, don’t leave it too late!
3. We send you a booking link
If we think it’s a good fit, we’ll send you a booking link and hold your spot for 24 hours. After that, we’ll move on to the next applicant, so we can’t guarantee the spot will still be available.
4. You’re in!
Once your booking is confirmed, your place on the expedition is secured.
It might sound a little fast, but with only a few spots available, this is the fairest way we’ve found to give everyone a real chance to join.
